Continuing Education/Skills Training (AB 2880)

Continuing Education/Skills Training Courses are offered online and at our training facility. The 8 credit hour courses are $45 and comply with the Department of Consumer Affairs' Skills Training Course requirements for security guards (AB 2880). The courses are self-study, facilitated by an instructor. Certificates of completion are issued after successful completion of the courses.

Alternatively, participants may walk-in during class registration if space allows. At our training facility we accept cash, credit/debit, money orders and company checks. In an effort to upgrade the level of training and the quality of personnel in the security industry, the State of California requires all licensed security guards to complete additional training after receiving their Guard Registration / Guard Card.


The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) has started a program of inspections to determine whether security guards have received the mandatory continuing education. Failure to be in compliance may result in a Guard's Registration being suspended or revoked, and/or fined by the BSIS.

What are the Continuing Training Requirements (AB 2280)?

In addition to the Guard Card Training Class, every newly licensed security guard must complete 32 hours of additional training. Sixteen (16) hours must be completed within 30 days from the day the registration is issued, or within 30 days of starting employment. The remaining 16 hours must be completed within the first six months from the day the registration is issued, or within six months of starting employment. Eight (8) hours of continuing education training is required every year after the first. Employers may provide this training for their security employees, or the Continuing Training may be obtained through LPG.
