Deciding on what security companies you want to apply with, is as important as where you get your training. Our Security Jobs Partnership Program will steer you in the right direction. Our security jobs partners are screened to ensure they are properly licensed as Private Patrol Operators (PPO) with the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).  

Do not be mislead by App based "platform" or "scheduling referral" companies that connect their clients with licensed security guards. Those companies are not licensed by the BSIS to provide security services, and hire licensed security guards as independent contractors, not as regular employees. While the hourly pay rate will be higher up front, the situation is not as pretty as it may seem. As an independent contractor, you will be expected to pay taxes on the income you make since payroll taxes will not be withheld, they will not provide you with health benefits, general liability insurance, workers compensation insurance, nor will they provide vacation time, sick time, a retirement savings plan, etc. Additionally, and most importantly, it is against the law for companies to provide contract security services without being licensed by the BSIS. It is also against the law for licensed security guards to provide contract security services as independent contractors. Don't be fooled! The PIER 39 Security Department is responsible for the physical protection of PIER 39 property and the safety of its visitors, tenants, and employees. Ideal candidates should have a desire for public service. Previous security experience is not necessary; however, applicants should possess a valid California Guard Card. All Security members are offered continuous training, including but not limited to: water rescue, bike patrol, fire suppression, CPR/First Aid/AED, baton, OC spray, and handcuffing certification.

Successful candidates will start at $21.00 per hour and be provided with employee parking in the PIER 39 garage.   • Identify report and resolve matters in the area of safety, inventory shortage, cash handling and theft, and for providing customer service as per company standards.
  • Conduct shortage control, loss prevention and safety inspections and audits, provide accurate documentation of results and communicate all potential or existing hazards to key holder on duty.
  • Monitor physical security protection standards and access control of building.
  • Utilize stores CCTV, alarm and exception reporting systems, (Sherlock) as directed.
  • Represent Burlington in court proceedings when required, including post-employment if necessary.
  • Execute Burlington Loss Prevention external and internal theft investigations per SOP.
  • Candidates must be able to work a full-time schedule; including nights, weekends and holidays as required. Candidates must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, as well as occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Prior experience as a security guard, loss prevention officer or retail security associate is preferred.
